Gather your colourful pens, sketchbook and your sense of imagination, then get drawing. But first, go outside.
This weekend, Taryn Walker, a Queer Indigenous artist of Salish (Nɬeʔképmx) ancestry, will run a workshop that explores the concept of drawing skills with the use of pen and ink through light, sound, movements and textures in surroundings. But this isn’t your typical art class — you’ll spend the day outside exploring nature and enhancing your art skills.
The workshop runs over two full days. “The first day will [take] place at the Indigenous Art Park and students will be exploring concepts of drawing skills [and] environment. The second day will [take] place at SNAP, and we’ll be doing more drawing exploration [and] things we went over during the first day of the workshop,” Walker says.
She adds that people can expect to explore drawings from a lot of different perspectives and also make some fun art while they’re there. “Art is such a beautiful way to connect with people and community,” says Walker.
The Weekend Workshop: The World of Markmaking runs at SNAP gallery from June 11-12. The sessions run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
