We’ve all been there — at the end of a long day of moving into a new place the only thing you can think of is food. Maria Augusta, founder and owner of Augusta Fashion & Textiles, had this experience at the end of April while moving into the company’s new studio space on 127 Street. Conveniently, she found Sabor de Los Andes across the street. The restaurant specializes in Latin American food, and she says the Chicken Arepa became her favourite food in Edmonton.
“And the staff is friendly, we were talking to them about salsa dancing and how I like salsa dancing too,” she says. Movement and dance are elements that Augusta believes are expressed through fashion and clothing, and can bring people together and build community. Part of her mission in Edmonton is to build the city’s fashion community using her experience from abroad, having worked in Italy, as well as closer to home at Vancouver Fashion Week.
And at the end of a day building that community? Sabor de Los Andes is where she wants to relax. “It’s so cute, it’s a little neighbourhood place,” she says, “and it reminds me of village restaurants in Italy. It has the same kind of tables and tablecloths, it feels comfortable.”
