Float down the North Saskatchewan River in style thanks to Edmonton Kayaks transparent, LED-lit kayak-canoe hybrids that come serviced with bluetooth speakers.
“Our initial thought was to bring some kind of activity to the city that can brighten everyone’s day,” says Iman Nooh. “We’ve been in a pandemic for almost two years now and kayaking is something that people can do outdoors while enjoying their time.”
Nooh started Edmonton Kayaks in partnership with her longtime friend Asha, who co-founded Toronto Kayaks earlier this year. The globe trotting pair saw transparent kayaks on a vacation years ago and wanted to bring a similar service to Canada with their own twist — LED lights and bluetooth speakers.
Bookings for the kayaks opened in September and the response has been positively overwhelming.
“We just didn’t expect this kind of demand,” says Nooh. “We really thought we were gonna have a few people like it, come out, and try it — but I didn’t really think we’d be this busy. We’re pretty much booked out.”
Bookings are weather permitting and the last planned day for bookings is October 18. Guests can book the kayaks for two hours from noon to 10 p.m. Single kayaks are available for $70 and tandem kayaks are available for $120.
Edmonton Kayaks is located at Buena Vista Dock (13210 Buena Vista Road NW).
