Anyone can start their own podcast — and YEGPodfest wants to teach you how. YEGPodfest is heading into its second annual festival with a lineup of master classes and events featuring podcasters from across the province. Learn how to start your own podcast and build a following, or simply listen to your favourite podcasters talk about, well, podcasting.
“Podcasting all over the place is quite broad, and I think that the means of production and access with podcasting means that basically anyone can really do it, so you do get a lot of niche interests and diverse voices,” says Fawnda Mithrush, festival producer of YEGPodfest and Top 40 alumna.
The festival kicks off with a discussion on political podcasting from the hosts of The Strategists and Women of ABPoli. A variety of panel discussions, master classes and in-depth discussions on podcasts make up the rest of the lineup. Join in on a panel discussion on the future of Canadian podcasting or take a master class on audio storytelling.
There are nine events throughout the weekend that will be happening over Zoom. Each event is an hour long, and they won’t be recorded, so the only time to watch them is live.
“If you’ve never listened to a podcast, the festival is a good way to sort of get your feet wet and see what’s out there in terms of growing your playlist,” says Mithrush. “And if you are someone who’s really into podcasting, or just into listening to podcasts, it’s a really good way to grow your listening list, especially with Canadian and Alberta podcasts.”
Running October 1 – 3, Registration for each individual YEGPodfest event is free, however, there is an all-access pass for $49 that gets you a link for every event. Pass holders are also entered to win prizes from McBain Camera.
