1. BODEGA TAPAS AND WINE BAR AT SABOR
When someone mentions Mediterranean cuisine, the first thing that comes to my mind is the sea and all of the delicious creatures therein. Luckily, that seems to be what comes to the minds of the folks behind Bodega, too.
To start, I ordered the octopus tapa. A good rule of thumb when dining out, after all, is that, if an eatery can do octopus justice, then it’s a safe bet everything else it serves will be spectacular. For the record, Bodega doesn’t disappoint. The octopus is grilled to perfection – not too gummy, not too soft and well-seasoned.
For those who crave an ocean’s worth of offerings on a single plate, the best bet is to order the seafood paella – a mixture of prawns, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams and vegetables on saffron rice. Here, the scallops are the star. Cutting through them is like cutting through butter, and the lightly salted portions practically melt in your mouth. But that does not discount the deliciousness of the mussels and calamari, which are equally tasty, and the prawns (oh, the prawns!) soak up the seasoning in such a way that it contrasts the sweet saffron rice, creating a perfectly balanced dish.
