Best Overall: Biera
Acclaimed and innovative, Biera has a definite open-concept brewery vibe to it — after all, biera means beer in Romansh. Located in Ritchie Market, the eatery presents a twist on the classic food and wine pairing, proposing creative dishes meant to be paired with freshly brewed beer (or wine, if you aren’t a beer drinker). It’s a local establishment through and through — here, you can choose from a variety of beers made in the adjacent Blind Enthusiasm’s Market Brewery, or four blocks away at The Monolith, as well as enjoy some unique, locally sourced dishes from the charcoal grill, like Grass-fed Korean Style Short Ribs or Honey Glazed Radicchio Kushiyaki. One standout dish is the Grass-fed Beef Tartare, served with horseradish and nasturtium. Tangy yet surprisingly light, it comes with garlic toast. You’re supposed to spread the tartare on the toast, but it almost melts on your tongue without it. It’s best suited to be paired with the crisp DEB ale by Blind Enthusiasm.
