Is an Edifier Award a mark of business excellence or community service? The truth is, it’s a little bit of both. As we created the new magazine, we discussed ways that we could honour those who build the city; after all, the word “edify” comes from “edifice” — a strong building based on a strong foundation. So the Edifier Awards seemed like a natural fit.
We accepted nominations through the autumn and selected winners in three distinct categories — Ground-breaker, Deal Maker and Power Broker. On top of that, we selected six organizations that have helped Edmonton grow and prosper; from a group that raised money to help clean up a neighbourhood, to a faith-based collective that’s making the city a warmer, more welcoming place.
Business awards for the sake of doing business was not what we wanted to do; these stories all had to ring true at a personal level.
