The Yellowhead Brewery downtown was packed on April 26 for the first-ever Water in Focus exhibition, hosted by the North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper, which advocates for the protection of Edmonton’s river.
Months ago, the society, announced an amateur photography competition split into four categories including, of course, the North Saskatchewan River. The event unveiled the winners in each category and auctioned off prints to raise funds for the society.
When chairperson and president Karen Percy Lowe took the stage to thank the attendees, she was quick to point to Glenn Isaac, an environmental lawyer and the North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper, for his hard work that brought everyone together. “I had a dream and a goal,” she said, “and he’s following through with it.”
In his role as Riverkeeper, Isaac monitors the river, advocates on behalf of concerned citizens and educates others about the importance of Edmonton’s jewel.
