Erin Isfeld makes a good case for spending a long, hot summer night in the seats at Re/Max field.
Yes, there’s the action on the baseball diamond, courtesy of the Edmonton Riverhawks, but it’s more than that.
“It’s been a great meeting place,” says Isfeld, manager of corporate communications at Edmonton International Airport, and a former anchor at CTV Edmonton. “We’ll say to our friends, ‘Hey, we’re going to the Riverhawks’ game tonight. Meet us there.’ And it becomes a social piece for so many in our circle.”
The thing about baseball is the games are long — and that’s a good thing. There’s time for food, drinks and visiting, alongside the sport.
But the Riverhawks have also made a concerted effort to put entertainment front-and-centre with theme nights, games and family-friendly activities.
“We have a strong baseball family that goes for the baseball,” Isfeld says. “We billet players from the baseball team as well, so I have that affinity for going to the ballpark on a beautiful summer night. The sun is out, it’s warm, you have a nice cold drink in your hand and you get to actually watch your billets play ball. There’s nothing better.”
