Freya Hammond-Thrasher never regretted turning her terrarium-making hobby into a part-time job. The miniature green worlds in her terrariums is where she experiments, heals and brings stories to life.
“Working a nine-to-five job wasn’t cutting it for my mental health,” says the indoor gardener. “Terrariums are all about experimentation, and I’ve learned a lot about what plants work best in my designs.”
At Planted Glass Terrarium, Hammond-Thrasher makes custom and ready-made terrariums for those who adore shades of green in their living spaces. You’d find both naturalist and themed terrariums at Hammond-Thrasher’s online store, along with tutorial videos and behind-the-scenes shots.
The terrarium maker describes herself as someone who “never quite grew up.” She loves recreating her favourite views from real life and scenes from fiction in her whimsical little container gardens.
One of Hammond-Thrasher’s recent creations is the Moai Terrarium, featuring moss, tropical plants and tiny moai statues. Take a closer look, it’s almost like she captured a spot from Easter Island, and kept it living forever in your living room.
“Terrarium making is a slow and mindful process that I relish,” shares Hammond-Thrasher. “My goal is to continue sharing the methods I experienced in, hence the creator blogs and tutorials I post all the time. It truly is my pleasure to share those little pieces of joy with my community.”
