In her university days, Genevieve Ongaro studied visual communication design. Clay wasn’t the visual artist’s first choice of media, but knowing how peaceful she felt when she worked with her hands, Ongaro knew she’d eventually find her way to ceramics.
“I believe in the importance of details. And I believe that design enhances the richness of life and how we experience the world,” says the artist.
Ongaro’s design reflects her drive for elegance. She chose minimalism as her style, for “design holds the power to express so much through so little.
One of her recent designs, Marshmallow Mugs, have matte finishes that are silky soft to the touch, with handles that snuggle perfectly into customers’ hands. The Marshmallow Mugs are what Ongaro dreams to hold in a life in material culture, for how simple yet elegant they are.
“It’s a cozy mug for the perfect amount of your morning elixir,” says Ongaro. “They’re so mellow that you may even not be able to resist the urge to lick it.”
