The mise en scne
Susan is head-to-toe glamour. Ryan radiates Rat Pack-era magnetism. Together, they’ve bedecked their home with shades of black, white and silver to createa classic look that shines as brightly as they do. A wine representative withDavid Herman & Son Ltd., Susan uncorked a Bodegas Escorihuela 1884 Limited Production Malbec (2008) from the Mendoza region. It graces a sparkling French nickel coffee table and serving tray. A brushed-silver log stool stands in as a side table and brings the outside indoors with a sophisticated twist of glitz.
The setting
The dining room takes its cue from a single source of inspiration – the stunning light fixture. But their magnificent mirror competes for top billing. The black vertical lines of the fixture are emulated in the pattern on the placemats and in the coiled strands of the metallic glass-beaded napkin rings. The tapered shape of the fixture is reflected in a trio of candlesticks. The dinnerware is layered with silver chargers, black and white Murano glass plates and pewter napkins. Dark smoky water glasses complete the ensemble. Underfoot is a soft cowhide rug that further adds a sense of luxury and highlights the cream and white table accents including tiny starfish. Theseare a decorative homage to Ryan’s family vacations at Waikiki Beach while growing up – atradition the couple happily continues.
The supporting accents
This contemporary bookshelf is the perfect host for an eclectic mlange of Susan’s chic adornments and Ryan’s beach-themed mementos. Stylish, scented Herv Gambs topiaries and mercury glass wine sphere vases mingle with a nickel clamshell bowl, a seashell objet d’art, a silver sandal souvenir, and a photo of the couple from a recent Hawaii trip.
