Whether you’re supporting the theatre arts at the Fringe or staking out a spot at Folk Fest, one thing is for sure – festivals are an integral part of an Edmonton summer. K-Days is unique in that there’s a little something for everyone. You can stop by for the nightly concerts to see international talent (this years line-up includes the Beach Boys and Ice Cube), sample some unusual fair foods, hop on your favourite rides or just kick back in the Beer Garden with some friends.
1879
The Edmonton Agricultural Society organized a local exhibition on the original Fort Edmonton site in October – it showcased livestock, grain, vegetables and handiwork and was attended by 500 people.
1901
The first summer exhibition took place.
1903
Edmontonians witnessed the first parade designed to promote Edmonton’s fair.
1904
Fair attendance reaches 20,000 visitors.
1910
The Edmonton Exhibition moved to the current Northlands Park site, with visitors quadrupling to 80,000.
1946
Fair attendance surpasses 200,000 visitors.
1962
A new twist – the Exhibition adopts a Klondike Days gold rush theme.
1979
100th Anniversary of the original exhibition.
1998
Embrace the theme – it’s the 100th anniversary of the Yukon Gold Rush.
2004
125th anniversary of the original exhibition.
