Nisha Patel has travelled around the world and eaten authentic Korean fried chicken, but there’s nothing like the Korean-style fried chicken from down the street.
“In some ways, the Korean fried chicken from It’Dog is even better than some I’ve tried before,” says Patel. “It has a really genuine flavour profile. I think they really nailed it.”
Passers-by might assume by the name that the small restaurant only sells hot dogs, but that’s not the case. Patel walked by the restaurant regularly on her way to and from the University of Alberta, but didn’t try it out until she found out it also sold fried chicken, in a variety of flavours and spice ranges.
If you’re still not convinced, the line that’s commonly seen outside the door might be a given that the food is worthy of trying.
“It’s not the fanciest place, but it’s usually really packed,” says Patel. “My favourite thing is that they always play Korean pop music including music videos on the wall. It’s a very noisy, chaotic place. It really feels like you’re in a tiny restaurant in Korea.”
