When your restaurant is housed in a 115-year old historic hotel, you’re bound to hear a ghost story or two.
Ray Pritlove, co-owner of the Transit Smokehouse, heard a good one. A woman had gone into the ladies room to take one of those bathroom selfies that are so popular on Instagram. But, when she looked at her phone, she was stunned by what she saw.
“In the mirror, there was a picture of a face that wasn’t supposed to be there,” says Pritlove.
So it’s only fitting that, until Halloween Night, the Transit Smokehouse is inviting guests to Dine With the Dead. For the second straight Halloween season, guests can visit the second floor, which offers a bevy of frights, and a lot of creepy history. Of course, you should do the scary stuff before you come back to the restaurant and enjoy some of the smoked brisket, St Louis style ribs, pulled pork and sausages. After all, you don’t want to be subject to a jump scare on a full stomach.
“Exactly! Come in, let us scare the crap out of you upstairs, then come down for some dinner,” says Pritlove.
Admission to Dine With the Dead’s second floor of haunts is $10. It’s a timed event — grab your advance tickets here. As well, bring items that will be forwarded to the Edmonton Food Bank. Note that the restaurant is closed Monday.
