When my mom suggested we go out for tea, I reluctantly said yes. I just can’t picture myself eating crustless sandwiches and sipping tea from a porcelain cup. Thankfully, Lady Bea’s defied my expectations with its menu offerings.
I opted for the Garden Tea Experience, which was served on a tiered platter, stacked with savoury pastries, scones, preserves and clotted cream. Tea is, of course, included in the experience. I ordered the Norfolk Breakfast, a take on English Breakfast — served in a vintage teapot, with a sandglass timer so you know when the tea is steeped. My mom went for the Sweetheart Tea Experience, which came with the same buttery, delicious scones, plus fruit and sweets.
Located in a converted old house in the High Street area, Lady Bea’s English Tea House has a classic, feminine vibe, decorated with ribbons, bird cages and, naturally, vintage teacups. As we sipped our tea, groups of finely outfitted women celebrated bridal and baby showers, and a group of girls with teddy bears were having a birthday party in one of the bookable tea rooms.
Inspired by the British tradition of afternoon tea, Lady Bea’s is a step back in time, both to a more traditional time, and to childhood — the space feels designed to match the tea party of every girl’s dreams.
We’re already planning our Mother’s Day visit to Lady Bea’s.
