The stretch of 91st Street south of Ellerslie is packed with businesses — chiropractors, dentists, construction companies, daycares. And nestled in amongst them is a cafe that just might become your go-to morning stop if you find yourself in the neighbourhood.
The space itself is the perfect mix of cozy and modern. The floor-to-ceiling windows on either end of the space fill it with light, and the glossy concrete floors add a chic industrial vibe. However, Edison bulbs, armchairs and hand-written chalkboard signs add touches of warmth to the space.
The signature items you must try are the buns, made in-house — with soft interiors, slightly crisp exteriors and hints of sweetness, they’re absolutely addictive. If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, opt for the s’mores or strawberry cheesecake options. If you’re looking for a more savoury breakfast, the Good Morning bunwich is a solid choice.
The combination of eggs, avocado, cheddar, pickled onions and chipotle mayo is fairly standard, but executed very well. The egg isn’t fried or poached but is instead almost a mini omelette, fluffy and well-seasoned. Pair it with a great cup of coffee — Brown Butter Café roasts Monogram Coffee beans. Owners Heena and Michael Mak welcome anyone who steps through the door with open arms, and there are many regulars. With a breakfast sandwich like that, why wouldn’t you come back day after day?
