No matter what time of day you stop by, there’s something interesting on the menu at Rise & Root, a cozy spot tucked away in a new area just off Lessard Road. Though the outside looks brand new, the inside has been transformed into an eclectic cafe. Peruse the large chalkboard wall which outlines the daily offerings, pull up a mismatched chair and settle in for a great meal.
If you’re looking for a quick bowl of soup at lunch, you’ll regularly find a new variety — there are over 40 styles of soup that the cafe rotates on the menu, including flavours like cream of zucchini flower and African sweet potato and peanut. Pair it with a cup of coffee — and perhaps a pastry — and it’s a satisfying meal.
And don’t think you need to skip dessert — on a recent visit, Rise & Root had an absolutely heavenly chocolate chip banana bread pudding, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
