Cafvino comes from Colombia, but it has a unique Edmonton connection.
Edmontonian Ingrid Schifer de Dennis discovered the drink six years ago, when she was visiting her native country. What is it? A blend of red wine made from Isabellina grapes, infused with the essence of the country’s famous coffee beans. The result is a dark, sweet drink — the colour of an old port — with a strong coffee finish.
She loved the product so much, that she approached the producers with a promise to market the drink to the world.
In April, a Cafvino launch party was held at the Kingsway Ramada Inn, with a live Internet link-up allowing the workers in Colombia to watch the goings-on in Edmonton.
Schifer de Dennis and her husband Carlin Dennis have been marketing the product to liquor stores across Alberta, and hope to have a breakthrough in the U.S. and Australia soon.
The drink may come from Colombia — but it’s Edmonton that’s introducing it to the world.
