The Lunchbox Sandwich Shop
We’ve all been there: no time to cook, grocery day still days away, or you forgot your lunch at home — but you’re hungry and want a full meal.
Now picture this: you’ve got a single $20 bill in your wallet.
Well, you’re in luck. We’ve dug through reviews, scoured the city to see what Edmontonians are saying, and added a few personal favourites to bring you 20 restaurants where your $20 bill goes a long way. These aren’t just quick snacks — they’re hearty combos and meals that will fill you up without draining your bank account.
Africano Cafe
From $2.99 sambusas to $9.99 brunch plates, $16.99 wraps and hearty suqaar combo dishes for $19.99 or less, this Somali spot offers flavour without the splurge. Add a good cup of coffee, and that crisp green bill goes a long way.

Al Salam Bakery
At Al Salam, Lebanese wraps and Man’oushe are the way to go for a great meal deal. A savoury meat pie runs just $5.95, while a falafel wrap will only set you back $8.95. Even the chicken and beef shawarmas come in under $10 for a regular size.
Cold cuts, liver pâté, fresh herbs and veggies — get yourself a sub for $12 or less. You’ll even have enough left over for a rich Vietnamese iced coffee at this beloved staple of Edmonton’s Vietnamese food scene.

Catch of the Week
A solid seafood market and an even better spot for takeout, some of the best fish and chips around. The best part? It’s only $13 for two pieces of Old English battered cod with fries — and yes, that includes tartar sauce and coleslaw.
If you’re hunting for lunch deals, look no further than Chinatown. Chinese barbecue is both tasty and affordable — and at Super Barbeque Delight, you can grab a lunch box loaded with assorted meats on rice for just $11 to $13.

Curry Corner
The only item over $20 at this tasty Indian spot in south Edmonton is a full tandoori chicken — so unless you’re planning to tackle a whole bird, a single bill gets you a delicious dish with enough left over for naan, rice, or a mango lassi.
This tasty catering company, founded as a place for Ukrainians displaced by war to find their feet in Canada, has been growing fast — including a new cafe on Jasper Avenue with a full hot lunch menu. For $16.95, you can dig into a sampler plate with three perogies, two cabbage rolls, three slices of sausage, salad, sour cream and a cup of borshch. A total steal, if you ask us.

Donna’s Eatery
Donna’s Eatery gets plenty of mention for its meal deals — and for good reason. The lunch combos might be nudging our $20 limit, but with those massive sandwiches that pile on the cold cuts, who’s complaining? Might as well have the leftovers for dinner, too.

Farrow Sandwiches
Farrow is a classic Edmonton staple. Choose from a rotating selection of sandwiches and fixed-menu favourites, all priced at $15 and under. One sandwich is plenty to fill you up, and with some seriously good coffee, you’re set for the day.
We once wrote that ILand Vybes offers honest food, done well — with portions that are generous. That still holds true. But the best deal? The jerk chicken meal comes with chicken, coleslaw, rice, and beans — all for just $15.75.
We pondered whether or not a grocery store fit the bill for this list, but for the Italian Centre, we’ll make an exception for that wonderful sandwich counter. At Spinelli Bar inside the flagship McCauley location, you can relax in a cozy sit-down area and enjoy a torpedo sandwich with a side of soup for an easy $15.49.

Nhon Hoa Sandwich Bar
Best bánh mì. Better combo. For $16.95, you can order a sandwich, salad rolls, and a pop — a combo that’s sure to fill you up.
For all your Latin American cravings, this market was another must-include thanks to its impressive and affordable meals. From taco combos at $16.99 to Salvadoran favourites like cassava with pork, served with a bottle of Cola Champagne for $13.99, it’s the perfect spot to sample a variety of Latin foods at an affordable pricepoint.

Phat Boy Cheesesteaks
We tried Phat Boy Cheesesteaks back in October and rated it “pretty darn good.” The prices for combos are just as impressive. With two locations, the cheesesteak combo — your sandwich, a side, and a drink — comes in at $17.75. Yum.
Good old Ralphs Fried Chicken — what started as a convenience store has grown into a full-fledged chicken joint. Cheap, filling, and downright satisfying for just $12.98. Extra hot sauce with ours, please.
This spot offers great sushi deals and a bento box with a variety of proteins that’ll definitely fill you up — all for $15 or less.

Seoul Fried Chicken
No meal deal list is complete without the heavyweight champ: The Big Seoul. A box packed with enough Korean fried chicken, two sides, and a drink to satisfy even the biggest appetite — all for $17.50.

The Butchery
Voted one of our best sandwiches for 2025, The Butchery offers fantastic quality for a reasonable price point. Their rotating sandwich menu features top-notch ingredients, with options starting at $13 for the smash burger and around $14 for other rotating sandwiches, giving you plenty of wiggle room to pick up a drink or their crispy fries. If you’re willing to bend the $20 rule, the steak sandwich clocks in at $21, and it’s well worth it.
During lunch hours, you can score a complete meal — vegetarian or not — for $15.99 and under. We’re talking paneer, dahl, chana masala, rice, and garlic naan — a hearty meal at a great price. Plus, wraps served all day come with fries for just $12.99.
