The Rogers Place-area Atlas Steak+Fish location is reopening Sept. 12. With the restart comes a revamped menu.
Atlas has five locations in Canada, including a restaurant at West Edmonton Mall. But, Oilers’ game night is a competitive place for the dining dollar, with so many food options in the arena and on 104th Street.
“Many of our recognizable signatures, like the tableside Baked Alaska and large-format steaks, remain staples,” says Todd Pollock, vice-president of food and beverage at Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, which oversees the Atlas brand. “At the same time, we’re constantly evolving and exploring new flavours and techniques. We like to surprise our guests and excite them with new developments as their preferences shift. Seasonal ingredients and regional preferences also influence our menu.”
The seafood tower was a talking point on the previous menu. There is a seafood tower as part of the revamped food lineup, but will feature some changes. Think of it as a tweaking of the ingredients just like Oilers’ general manager Stan Bowman tweaked the roster ahead of this season.
Pollock says that the goal was to make the tower easier for customers to eat.
“Our seafood tower is a signature offering that we’re proud to see our guests enjoy nightly,” he says. “The latest rendition is more refined and guests don’t have to work to open any shellfish. Everything is beautifully presented and we’ve woven in some Asian flavours to really elevate the experience. You’ll find notes of Thai lime, a Madras curry blend, togarashi and yuzu, giving our tower a distinctive flair that celebrates the seafood.”
And then there is the cocktail menu, which is also revamped. The days of hockey nights being solely for beer, popcorn and hotdogs are over. Rogers Place serves signature cocktails at games and concerts, and Atlas will have some new combinations to try. The new Puck Drop is a take on the venerable Old Fashioned… except that it’s orange. And there’s the Cry Wolf, a take on the whiskey sour with Bulleit bourbon, a French apricot liqueur and a hint of macadamia nut.
“There’s definitely been a growing demand for more innovative and creative drinks,” says Pollock. “We’re really proud of the new cocktail lineup, which we designed to complement the diverse crowd we attract at Atlas ICE District. It’s an elevated experience, but still very approachable.”
