Bánh Mí Cali is a special place for comedian Kathleen McGee.
“When I lived near Kingsway Mall last year, I always drove past it and one day I finally went in and it changed my life,” says McGee. “I loved it so much that when we were deciding on food for our wedding, we had to have the bánh mí’s, and they were a hit.”
McGee says the owner hand-delivered the California-inspired Vietnamese sandwiches to the wedding and stayed for a while. All of Bánh Mí’s sandwiches are baked fresh daily with a 20-year-old family recipe, and “packed with flavour,” says McGee.
McGee says she’ll never forget the first time she took a bite out of the charbroiled beef on baguette bánh mí, and she always orders extras for leftovers.
“I’d eat there at least once a week when I lived closer, but now I’m there at least once a month. I don’t crave a lot of things, but I’ll get a craving for the grilled beef bánh mí on baguette and I can’t get it out of my mind until I have one. Now that I’m talking about it I’m going to have to go get one.”
