Puneeta McBryan knows all about downtown businesses, which is why she couldn’t wait to visit Rosewood Foods when it opened last year. The first treat she ever tried from there was the chocolate olive oil cake and, once she had a taste, she knew it wasn’t your average grocery store cake.
“It was one of their first baked goods and I genuinely believe it is the best chocolate cake in the city,” says McBryan. “It’s like magic.”
The texture, moistness and rich chocolate flavour are what make the cake a stand-out for McBryan. The vegan cake comes topped with a raspberry-cardamom glaze and crushed rose giving it a hint of sweetness.
McBryan knows the owners Jesse Gado and his wife, Angela Chau-Gado from when Gado used to work at Red Star Pub which is another reason she finds herself stopping in frequently.
“As soon as they were open, I was eager to get in there and support them.”
