As chosen by Bukola Salami, associate professor at University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing

Picking just one favourite restaurant is near impossible for Top 40 Under 40 alumna Bukola Salami, but when it comes down to it, her favourite is Monamie Resto.
The African Restaurant in North Edmonton serves authentic African dishes including tilapia, kwanga and banku, but Salami’s must-have dish at the moment is the jollof rice. Jollof rice is a popular West African dish made with long grain rice, tomatoes and spices.
“We tend to order take-out, but COVID-19 might be a factor in that,” says Salami, who has never actually been inside the restaurant. Her preferred method is having one of her family members pick up the food and bring it home, however, she is excited to have a sit-down dinner in the restaurant and order her favourite dish when she feels it’s safe to do so.
Over the better part of a decade, the 25 Best Things to Eat feature was a summer staple for Avenue readers. Edify keeps the spirit of that program alive in 2021; we will feature the food picks of prominent Edmontonians throughout the spring and summer.
