Inspiration can truly come from anywhere for local artist and muralist AJA Louden, including a meal from south side Japanese restaurant Izakaya Tomo.
“I have so many good memories here. They have an atmosphere that makes me feel at home,” Louden says. “Food is a huge point of inspiration for me as an artist, so I go here when I want to recharge and feel inspired before painting.”
When it comes to choosing his favourites, Louden doesn’t have to look any further than the seafood. He’s particularly fond of Izakaya Tomo’s oysters ponzu, as well as the aburi saba, a torched sashimi-grade mackerel that serves as a clean start to a meal.
Izakaya Tomo isn’t just a spot that Louden likes to frequent when he personally wants to recharge — he’s also made a point of sharing it with anyone looking for a taste of the city.
“Izakaya Tomo is one of my favourite places to take people when they visit Edmonton — it makes me feel proud to be able to share such good food in our city!”
