“The potato salad at Upper Crust is such a nostalgia thing for me. I used to go there all the time with my mom. And oftentimes, I’ll go there and get a plate of just potato salad, because it reminds me of going there when I was a teen when, to me, it was like, the cool place to go. It’s actually where I went for my 18th birthday and had my first legal drink. They didn’t have really fancy drinks so they made me a red wine with Limonata — basically red wine with pop.
“I also remember they had this one painter, Lynn Malin — they always had her paintings showcased at Upper Crust. And my mom and I just really loved her work, so much so that years later we still go when she has exhibits on 124 Street.
“The Country Chocolate Cake was the thing we would have if it was a special occasion. But we’d always get the potato salad and fresh baked bread. So good. It’s such a nice place and now it’s like an institution that I love going to.”
