“Double Greeting Wonton House is my number one. It’s what I grew up on, and it’s just one of those places that will never go away. Or if it did, people would lose their minds.
“When I was a kid, the one order that my parents would always get for us was #119, tofu and pork. It’s such a good dish: Soft tofu with some pork bits and mushroom bits on rice, and this velvety sauce that’s just amazing.
“It’s my family’s favourite, and we still eat it to this day, even my family who moved to Toronto. When they visit, or when we go there, we’ll freeze it and put it in containers and then we’ll bring it on the plane with us to Toronto.
“Today, it’s more of a special occasion thing. It’s one of the better Chinese food restaurants in the city, and it’s been there forever. It’s such a nice group of people, and I’m not even joking, it’s the same ladies who served me when I was a kid. I don’t know if they know all the regulars like me by name, but they know everybody by face — and order.”
