It happened about as quietly as a reboot can happen — this autumn, Crestwood’s Delux Burger Bar got a new name, and an updated menu.
Yes, you’ll still find burgers on offer at 142 Bistro Bar; the ownership remains the same, too. But those burgers don’t play as big a role on the menu; there’s an emphasis on salads, and 142 “signature” items, such as the lobster nachos. It is still meant to be a casual place to gather for lunch, or drinks with friends, but the idea is to loosen the reins on the restaurant’s concept.
We tried the 142 Bistro Bar last week, going for the lobster nachos and the Three B’s Burger, with bison sourced from Sturgeon County’s Coal Black Bison Co. The other “B” items on the burger (wait, when did this article go all Sesame Street?) are the blueberry compote and brie cheese. Yes, many of us have tried berry-based barbecue sauces, and this is what we were expecting. Basically, some sort of red sauce with a touch of berry and a lot of tang. But, no, the “compote” part is not marketing doublespeak. What’s on this burger is a true blueberry fruit spread, which, when you think of it, makes sense with the brie. After all, we often pair brie with something sweet, right?
The lobster nachos come in a healthy size serving, made for sharing. The lobster bits are heated with the nachos, and have a bit of a crisp finish from the oven. Lobster served as an accompaniment to the traditional North American nacho platter is an acquired taste: like shrimp with cocktail sauce. you either think lobster works with salsa and jalapeño, or you don’t.
We were told that the menu will evolve as the new concept proceeds.
