When I was a kid, one of my favourite comics was the Superman/Spider-Man team-up. That’s right, DC and Marvel, the two biggest comic companies out there, decided “why not put our signature characters… together?”
The Colombian Coffee Bar & Roastery and the Annie Rue ice cream parlour are neighbours in a Parkallen strip mall, across from Ellingson Park. And, like Marvel and DC, the two have collaborated on what is a superhero of a treat. Annie Rue serves up hand-crafted coffee ice cream. But, in this case, it’s made with beans roasted by the coffee-shop neighbours.
I went in and ordered one; I’ve always been a fan of coffee-flavoured, well, anything. But this coffee ice cream, well, you really notice the roasted-bean punch up front. It was so good, in fact, that I brought back a pint for the office.
“Now this is a treat for the adults!” said our art director. (The ice cream got thumbs up all around).
While I was at Annie Rue, I was told that the Colombian’s staff will order the ice cream, then pour espresso on top. I feel that this is something that everyone should be doing. After all, why not support more than one community business in one treat?
