It has the feel of a van Gogh canvas: Meander through the wintry garden, be dazzled by lights of all hues, gaze into a starry night, warm up at a fire pit, and enjoy it all ensconced in your own private dome. And did we say there’d be fondue? Three courses of fondue!
If you want to enjoy a magical meal with loved ones in an outdoor (yet oddly indoor) setting, book your private spot at the Northern Light Dining Experience at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden (UABG), which offers 30 domes, each fitting two to- six people. The event runs Thursday to Sunday, until March 13. Better book in advance, though.
“We’ve had a wonderful response to this series. Every night has been sold out. We started in November last year but had to suspend the event for a few weeks during the cold snap at the turn of the year. Now we’re back again and the interest of Edmontonians hasn’t waned,” said Kamal Mali, guest experience lead at UABG.
The meal includes three courses of sweet and savory fondue (including a fondue made with chocolates sourced from Edmonton-based Jacek Chocolate, mixed with marshmallows and toffee bits), and is prepared in collaboration with award winning Edmonton-based chef Cindy Lazarenko.
