For Edmonton comedian Celeste Lampa, burgers were never really her go-to. But that all changed when she discovered the Double Flatty at Shiddy’s, a distillery/tasting room in the city that has quickly become her obsession. The food comes courtesy of Flat Boy Burgers.
“I’ve only been there twice, but it’s that good,” Lampa says. “It’s really going to be a staple for me. Probably the best burger I’ve had in my entire life.”
It’s not just the taste that’s hooked her; there’s something about Shiddy’s Double Flatty that resonates on a deeper level. “It sounds silly, but I feel like I already have a deep connection to it, even having had just one burger,” she admits. “It just tastes like a burger that should be a burger all the time, like you know when you watch people eat a burger in a movie or on TV, and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that burger looks amazing. I wonder what it tastes like?’”
Lampa’s first encounter with Shiddy’s wasn’t even planned. “I had a show down the street, two avenues over, and one of the comics brought it up. I didn’t order a burger — my buddies did — I only got the fries, but looking at them eating the burger, I was in awe.”
Shiddy’s has more than just top-tier burgers going for it. With its fun drinks and decor that Lampa likens to “an ’80s basement,” it’s not just a place to eat — it’s an experience.
