So, egg salad on white bread is the stuff of a proper high tea, right?
Well, imagine if high tea was served in a place of Lewis Carroll’s wildest dreams. When you enter The Art of Cake, you enter a world of Alice and the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit. There is a very large rabbit that looks on from the corner of the dining area. There’s mismatched chairs, a collection of chandeliers and china behind glass. If you weren’t so enthralled by looking at the pastries behind the glass at the counter, you might worry that a Queen might come by and say it was time for you to lose your head. The Art of Cake is the stuff of story time — and it also has one of the best lunch options in the city, according to Heather Klimchuk.
“I love the ambience of The Art of Cake with fragile teacups, teapots and a decor that reflects a past time when it was cool to collect a china pattern and store it in a beautiful cabinet,” she says. “The egg salad is the best in the city and, of course, the cakes and pastries are perfect in every way.”
So, if you want to have lunch like Klimchuk, get the sandwich, and save room for a pastry, afterwards. And make sure to keep your head.
