When you get ice cream in a cone, and also get a spoon, it sends an awfully mixed message. How are you supposed to attack the treat that’s in your hand?
Well, at Jack’s Drive-In, located right off Highway 16A in Spruce Grove, the Almond Roca is the king of the ice cream menu. And you will need the spoon, because there’s so much stuff to get through, that if you simply try to lick it, you are going to end up making a mess, awfully fast.
What makes this so special? Think of those wrapped ice-cream cones you find at the convenience store. You know, Drumsticks and the like. They’re actually pretty good. A guilty pleasure. Ice cream packed into a cone — that usually has a hole in the bottom — with a hard chocolate coating and nuts on top.
Now, take the whole Drumstick idea and amp it up, big time. A waffle cone, but the inside is coated in chocolate and peanuts. It’s filled with vanilla soft-serve, then add some coconut, a healthy amount of hot fudge and then a whole mess of slivered almonds on top. It’s overkill, and you see why the spoon is included. Do you know how soft ice cream and hot fudge kinda clump together in delicious bits? This has that. The coconut and almonds add a whole lot to the mix, and then come the peanuts when you get down to the cone. I only got about halfway through the waffle cone before my stomach was soundly defeated by this gorgeous beast of a dessert.
