One thing I love about sitting at the bar table is that I get to see how each drink and dessert is made. And among all the desserts served at Dorinku Tokyo, the making of a strawberry parfait is the most satisfying to watch.
What’s not to like in this glass full of sweetness? The bartender fills the bottom with pink strawberry jam and whipped cream, then a layer of cake pieces, and another layer of jam and cream. On top of that, a perfectly round ice cream ball is scooped into the glass, which almost fills up the remaining space. Then there’s the generous amount of whipped cream swirl. And, surprisingly, there’s still space for Corn Flakes, a strawberry macaron, half a strawberry, a small piece of cake and drizzles of strawberry puree.
There are many ways to finish a parfait. I bet you can even find a personality test based on where you take the first bite. For me, I always start with the garnishes — if you don’t want me to dip it into whipped cream, why would you put a strawberry up there?
Once I finished the whipped cream swirl, it’s time to reach the bottom of the glass. The sweet ice cream has just started to melt, and the sweet strawberry jam gives each layer a joyful twist. Fall breezes are yet to come, I’d save my lazy summer afternoon for a glorious ice cream parfait.
