When the sun comes out to play, food trucks aren’t far away. Arguably, food trucks are a staple in Edmonton and there is no shortage of them. They can be found parked beside the busiest parks and are guaranteed to be at every festival – no matter the weather.
If you’re fancying a food truck fix, head on over to Kingsway Mall on Friday for the Free Wheelin’ Food Truck Fest. Make sure to socially distance and follow all Alberta Health regulations. It’s worth noting that, as of Sunday night, even outdoor dining on patios will not be allowed by the province
A wide selection of 124 Grand Market food trucks from Drift to Soysal Scoops to BF Korean Chicken will be on scene to serve up eats. Calle Mexico, Coast Lunch Box and Guilt Free Eats are a few other food trucks that will be parked in the lot. The restrictions on festivals have forced food trucks to get creative with where they park. The Free Wheelin’ Food Truck Fest is not only an opportunity for food trucks to get more foot traffic, but it’s also a chance for Edmontonians to get outside and experience even just a sliver of the thrill they get from going to a large-scale festival.
“Last year was tough as we witnessed food trucks struggling to find locations to serve and some trucks stayed closed for the entire season” says Kirsta Franke, owner and founder of Wild Heart Collective and The Public. “We’re bringing back the Free Wheelin’ Food Truck Fest not once, but throughout the 2021 summer season to support these incredible trucks who make up Edmonton’s unique street food scene. Make sure you come early as all the food trucks sold out last time.”
The Free Wheelin’ Food Truck Fest takes place at the Kingsway Mall southwest parking lot on May 8 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. COVID-19 protocols will be in place including sanitization stations, mandatory masks and social distancing. Be sure to come on an empty stomach, though; you won’t be hungry for long!
