The first thing I notice as I walk into The Coffee Shop in Devon is the smell of fresh bagels — definitely the shop’s most signature offering. These bagels are fluffy and thick without being dense. The Everything Bagel I had for breakfast was so wonderfully flavoured with herbs and garlic that it tasted like it was all plucked straight from the garden.
One thing that makes these bagels so notable isn’t just that they’re baked in-house, but that they have a whimsical approach to cream cheese flavours, from rosemary honey to spicy dill pickle to pizza. The bagel-and-cream-cheese combinations on offer have opened my eyes to new flavour profiles — who knew sweet vanilla cream cheese could be so good?
When I’m craving something sweet, their cookies hit the spot. Thick and chunky with a soft middle make them the perfect treat for me. The base cookie is simple and not overly sugary, letting the additions (like chunks of Coffee Crisp or Snickers bars) carry the sweetness.
The Coffee Shop in Devon delivers on exactly what I want from a small town, community cafe. The space is warm and welcoming, and it always smells delicious.
