I’ve lived on the north side for 16 years and I’ve driven through the Beverly area an uncountable amount of times. Yet, I’ve never been to eat at Swiss 2 Go, and it’s only a 12 minute drive from my house.
Nestled on 118th Avenue and 43rd Street, Swiss 2 Go is a quaint cafe offering Swiss style sandwiches, soups and desserts. What it’s most known for are its cheesecakes, which come in the shape of teacups. You may have seen them on social media at one point (I know I have).
I finally took the short drive and went for a lunch date by myself. The decor inside is rustic and feels homey, like you’re eating in your grandma’s kitchen. The menu features over a dozen sandwiches, making it very difficult to choose. When I asked the cashier which one he recommended, he laughed and said “all of them.”
I went with the Italian Bride, which has prosciutto, roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes and bocconcini cheese stuffed between a pretzel bun. Be warned, the sandwich will fall to pieces by the end and will become a delicious mess to eat. The pretzel bun was soft and the saltiness complimented the flavours of the fillings. Swiss 2 Go also has many vegetarian options if you like your sandwiches meatless.
The main event, though, was the cheesecake. These teacup-shaped cakes may look little, but it’s a challenge to finish it all. I highly recommend sharing with a friend. Amaretto Cookie Cheesecake and the cookie flavour was light and creamy. The cake is served on a flower-shaped piece of chocolate that melts in your mouth. For $25, it’s on the pricier side for dessert, but the experience and the photos you’ll take are worth it.
