I don’t know who posted “R.I.P Good Old Days” on Instagram when Starbucks closed its location at the corner of 103rd Street on Whyte Avenue. I know I didn’t. My toxic trait is to overly expect our local talents to revive a dead spot on Whyte, and PACT Coffee is worth the wait.
PACT Coffee opened last week of March and places a large focus on their gluten-free, vegan-protein baked treats. Don’t hesitate to try the freshly baked doughnuts and cupcakes if you crave the tender texture of delight. The Chocolate Caramel Cream doughnut I tried had multiple layers of compact sweetness from the edge of the chocolate glaze to the centre notch of caramel. Plus, it looks so pretty on the delicate, coloured porcelain plate.
The flat white is “surprisingly outstanding”(Quote from my text message to a friend). I loved the smooth flavour in the espresso, and the strong coffee to milk ratio. At the end of the day, nothing goes better with doughnuts than a good coffee drink. My very judgy cappuccino lover friend recommends the oat milk cappuccino. PACT also provides cashew milk and soy milk as substitutions.
If you would like to go out but don’t feel like socializing all the time, (like me), PACT has a winning location where you can sit by the bar table facing the windows, and enjoy an afternoon of people watching. Looking inside, the store is filled with curated wall decor and lively houseplants. An abundance of natural light comes through the glass every sunny afternoon, endowing a cozy in-store atmosphere.
