El Mero Mero has been serving up authentic Mexican tacos around town out of its vibrant food truck since 2021, and its restaurant space is now open.
I’d say I’m something of a taco aficionado, which is why I don’t say this lightly, but the Tinga De Pollo tacos are some of the best I’ve ever had. The corn tortillas are filled with shredded chicken in spiced tomato sauce topped with lettuce, sour cream and sliced avocado. The creamy avocado complemented the richness of the spiced tomato sauce perfectly.
Don’t expect minimal fillings with these tacos. Each of the three tortillas were filled to the brim with toppings, to the point where the bottom of one tortilla gave way to the heavy toppings. Did I mind? No, because suddenly I had taco salad.
El Mero Mero’s appetizer menu shouldn’t be glanced over. The quesadillas are light and cheesy, and the Queso Funido Con Champinones (with mushrooms) is thick, decadent, and also cheesy. Don’t bring your lactose-intolerant friends here, or make sure they take their lactose tablets beforehand like my friend did. It’s worth it.
If you have room for dessert, go with the churros with cajeta (Mexican caramel sauce) or the Platanos Fritos (fried plantains topped with cream and sugar). The best part is you can take the extras home for a midnight snack.
