In high school, I had a friend who challenged herself to eat only pizza for an entire month. I wouldn’t say that I love pizza that much, but I’d never say no to a cheesy slice.
After a particularly grueling spin class, I decided to head to the newly opened Leopard Pizza in Glenora’s West Block. I figured the line out the door and the 20-minute wait for a table was a pretty good indicator that the pizza was worth it.
When we finally sat down, we were so hungry we decided on ordering a pizza each. While controversial, the Hawaiian is worth a try. The pizza is covered in San Marzano tomato sauce, provolone, smoked Tasso ham, IPA caramelized pineapple and jalapeño zhug (hot sauce), which adds an unexpected heat that blends with the sweetness of the pineapple.
The Tartiflette pizza is topped with béchamel sauce, Kennebec potato, Appenzeller and Fontina cheeses, pancetta and onion. To be honest, It was delicious and extremely cheesy. Order it with Leopard’s house hot honey sauce.
The real winner at Leopard’s Pizza is the soft serve ice cream, so save room for dessert. The current two flavours are Tonka Bean, which has a nutty, vanilla flavour, and strawberry. You have the option to order the flavours in a twist, as an affogato or with toppings like olive oil and sea salt. The chef’s special of the day was freshly baked apricot crumble which was the perfect addition to my Tonka Bean strawberry twist.
