So, maybe you can’t find tickets for Oilers playoffs games. Or maybe you are going to the game, but want to fuel up beforehand. And then there are the road games. Being alone on an Oilers playoff night…is sad. So here are some ideas where you can be around all your new best friends in blue and orange.
Look, if you’re going to have beer, you’re going to need some wings to go with that. As part of its Game Day Menu, the Banquet offers a variety of flavours. We’re kinda partial to going old school, and Frank’s Red Hot is fine for us. But you can also choose from flavours like Lemon Harissa or Cherry Teriyaki. Look at you, with those fancy wings. You’re a connoisseur.

Maybe an oven-fired pizza is your pre-game meal of choice. There are “two social hours” specials from 9 p.m to close, with deals on pizza, truffle fries, wine and sangria. And, here’s a perk, park in the EPCOR Tower and have Buco validate your parking if your bill is $25 or more. So, head there before the Oilers game, and the meal kinda pays for itself. At least, what you would have paid in parking.

This place is nowhere near Rogers Place, but its selection of oven-fired bar pizzas is one of the best-kept secrets in the city. We’ve been here for an Oilers night, and it’s the kind of neighbourhood pub where you, after you walk in, you’ll soon wonder “will I become a regular?”

Yes, the Oilers have an exclusivity deal with a major brewery. But, downtown, you’ll find some excellent craft brews — and the Big MacDavid pizza. Yeah, it’s like that famous fast-food burger, but on a pizza. And the slabs are super thick — so bring friends, either before or during the game.

This made-in-Edmonton mini-chain has become famous for being a go-to spot on Oilers game nights. Get close to the action by heading to the Jasper Avenue location, but you can stay closer to the Henday if you choose the St. Albert or Ellerslie spots. You can do chicken wings and beer, but you can also have beets and goat cheese, or spicy brussels sprouts in maple glaze. We won’t judge. OK, we lied. We’re totally judging you.

Location, location, location. It’s located right across the street from Rogers Place, in the Mercer Warehouse. The decor is full-0n sports retro, and will make you think about that hockey or baseball card collection you used to have (Or still have). The taps have selections of Alberta craft beer and stuff from the big guys, and the menu hits most of the pub favourites. You’re close enough to hear the roar of the arena.

If you’re in the south and don’t want to head into the city, Barney’s Pub & Grill offers Oilers game day specials, and its elevated pub menu has items sourced from local suppliers. Also, Barney’s has a self-serve craft beer wall. (Yes, we buried the lede). You draw from a selection of Alberta craft beers, and pay by the ounce. It’s like those frozen yogurt places, except it’s better, because it’s beer.

It already gets points for the Dodgeball reference. But this place boasts 33, yeah, 33, HDTV sets. Oh, and two more 98-inch 4K televisions. Size does matter. At least when it comes to screen size. This is about as close as you can get to something that’s scoreboard size.

How can you not be intrigued by a burger called the “Connor McProv.” Two smashed patties and Thousand Island sauce, peppercorn bacon and five-cheese blend.

Contests! Big, big, big screens! Lots of burgers to choose from and a wide variety of beers on tap. There’s buckets of chicken wings and something called the National Poutine League. We hear gravy is in for a good playoff run.

This is a favourite post-game watering hole, as it’s located just a short walk from Rogers Place. This is just an unpretentious pub, with good beer selection and food. Sometimes, you get lucky and post-game drinks coincide with karaoke night.
