On Jasper Avenue, just east of 104 Street in the Birks Building, sits the new object of downtown’s affection, filled with decor items and gifts, books, flowers — and some of prettiest pastries in town (we suggest pairing the Blueberry Matcha Latte with the Wild Rose mini-cakes).
Obj3cts is the work of the Squirechuk family, who opened their beautiful shop last year. “We wanted to bring something different to Edmonton that you couldn’t find here,” Lynne Squirechuk says of the carefully curated art, design objects, stationery, specialty foods, and apothecary items all within a cafe setting. Obj3cts also serves as a second storefront for Wild Rose Cakes, run by Lynne’s daughter Kristianna.
A skylight anchors the surprisingly spacious interior, with mezzanine seating for 30 beneath natural light and hanging greens. “Families love to grab a coffee and a pastry and hang out on the couch up there,” says Squirechuk. During weekdays, it offers a bright, quiet spot for meetings or remote work.
The rotating menu features fresh-baked croissants, scones, cookies, macarons and cupcakes, with seasonal flavours complemented by focaccia sandwiches and loaded croissant handhelds.
“It’s a learning experience for us,” says Squirechuk. “We haven’t gotten through a full year yet, so we’re not sure what we’ll end up with.” The cafe also offers custom and grab-and-go flower arrangements for downtown customers. They’ve maintained a consistency in all details, showing the Squirechuk’s personal care, right down to the carefully placed rose petals on their chocolate caramel cakes on display.
The unique combination of artisanal baked goods, curated retail items, and inviting workspace has created a distinct and delicious destination in downtown Edmonton’s evolving landscape.
