You eat with your eyes first, and that’s exactly what Re:Grub is betting on with its over-the-top milkshakes. The Calgary hot spot recently expanded to Edmonton, setting up shop just off Whyte Avenue. The out-the-door line-ups prove that the city is definitely ready for some decadent desserts. While there is an extensive selection of burgers and fries, the shakes are without question the main attraction – there’s even an area dedicated to crafting the frosty treats, separate from the main kitchen. The flavours of the shakes themselves are basic, but Re:Grub’s specialty is the packaging. Each shake comes in a mason jar with a rim covered in sprinkles, chocolate or cake crumbs, and the shake itself is piled high with toppings such as doughnuts, ice cream sandwiches, full slices of cheesecake, heart shaped churros, pancakes and even a house-made Rice Krispie treat rainbow. Even if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, the crazy shakes are something you need to experience at least once.
