If you’ve been to Vancouver over, well, the past decade or so, chances are you’ve heard of Japadog. You may have even gone in and tried one.
Oomami Dog, located inside Splash Poke’s south Edmonton location, ups the ante. More toppings. A warm butter roll. And, I had to try one. You may have noticed that this website has been on a hotdog bent of late, and we make no apologies for it.
There are four hotdog varieties from which to choose and, as a loyal servant to the readership, of course I chose the most expensive and luxurious options. No way I was going to bare-bones this effort on you all.
It took a few minutes to make, but what came out in the cardboard tray was magnificent. The crab mix is piled thick on top of a massive smear of avocado; in fact, it’s all piled so high — as you can see by the accompanying image — that it’s pretty well impossible to actually see the kurobuta pork sausage tucked underneath. Trust me, it was there, and it’s big.
This was not an easy thing to eat. I found I had to nibble off some of the crab mix from the top, like a bird pecking away at a feeder, in order to feel safe enough to pick up the hotdog. The spicy sriracha punches through the creaminess of the crab, and then comes the hot-diggity-dog goodness of the kurobuta.
It’s a lot. And it’s impossible not to make a mess. I would not recommend taking this to go.
