When we think of “Izakaya,” we think of Japanese snack food, meant for sharing. We think of little morsels that are easily washed down with beer.
But, on Jasper Avenue, the Let’s Grill Sushi & Izakaya also offers up substantial ramen bowls. After all, if you’re downtown doing some Christmas shopping, you might need a warm-up. I was not doing my Christmas shopping when I visited, because it’s not the third week of December, yet. I was running some errands and was enticed by the sandwich board advertising the fact that, indeed, there was ramen to be had.
I ordered the shoyu, and the pork broth was rich with a good amount of salt, but not overpowering in any way. The egg was soft with just that little bit of sweetness. There was plenty of corn, and the pork melted in my mouth, and wasn’t overly chewy, which can sometimes happen when you make your way through a bowl of ramen.
This is a restaurant that hasn’t got some of the buzz that some of the other Japanese eateries in town have received over the last few years. But, I walked out of Let’s Grill completely satisfied.
