Edify‘s staff was given a sneak peek at the fifth (and largest) Alberta location of The Italian Centre, located on Emerald Drive in Sherwood Park. At 20,500 sq. ft., there’s a lot to see — sports themes are evident, from cafe lights and tiles that look like the panels on a soccer ball, to a produce section that honours Italy’s most famous cycling team.
The deli has a marble wall that makes it feel like you’re in a grand Italian museum.
And, look for gelato that’s made on site, plus a massive wall of olive oil. A wall of cheese can hold 32 large wheels of Parmigiano-Reggiano or Grana Padano.
Italian Centre President Teresa Spinelli said the stores were able to survive through the pandemic without having to make major layoffs. She said the chain acted like a family through the tough times, “everyone ate a little less so the 10th kid can eat.”
The newest location of The Italian Centre opens to the public on July 21 at 11 a.m.
