Like white diamonds, black diamonds can symbolize love. In the case of David and Andrea Scade, it represents their love — and their unique engagement.
Andrea was never big on jewellery — so, when David proposed, they went to a custom ring maker, who suggested they go black. But black diamonds are also said to represent passion and charisma. So, a few years later, when the couple decided to pursue their passion for finely made spirits and liqueurs, and make a menu full of charisma, they already had their company name in mind.
Black Diamond Distillery produces spirits and liqueurs seasonally sourced from Alberta that are 100 per cent distilled, infused and bottled by the Scades themselves. They’re proud of the fact that every product they’ve entered into contests has won a medal, but they’d rather you try a bottle and judge for yourself. They’d also like to hear what you’re drinking on your own, and are happy to share the recipes like these Black Diamond gems. BlackDiamondDistillery.com
“Created using our very own ginger-pepper syrup, made in-house, it has quickly become one of our most popular craft cocktails, and the #1 seller with Retail Partners like Sherbrooke Liquor — #1 on the shelves, #1 in our hearts, as this is Andrea’s very favourite thing we make!”
“A collaboration recipe for a tasting dinner with Privada, it brings a refreshing summer cocktail for wine lovers to life. It’s so delicious that even David loves it — and he hates wine!”
“Our spin on a classic, we created this cocktail using our own Alberta Wild Rose syrup for a garden party hosted by St. Albert Botanic Gardens. It was a huge hit and one we’re considering for our next ready-to-drink cocktail.”
