Linda Hoang doesn’t just support local brands with her social media savvy, she is one of Edmonton’s strongest brands.
When Hoang decided to start her own solo social media strategy company after a decade of personal blogging and professional roles, she thought that most of her work would involve consulting. Just three years later, she generates most of her business through brand partnerships and content on her blog and personal social media accounts. She also has plans to expand her business beyond the contractors she currently employs.
“I found that when I documented or talked about a business that I’m supporting, or an event that I’m going to, it has inspired others to try and do the same,” she says. Last year, Hoang put her influencer label to the test when she asked her followers to support Yoshii Express, a struggling Japanese restaurant that had opened its doors a few weeks into the pandemic. The response from the community was literally overwhelming — with lines out the door, the restaurant had to close early the following weekend just to restock supplies.
After more than a decade as a social-media strategist and local personality, Hoang says the biggest lesson she’s learned is not to stress over what she can’t control — although she’s still trying to listen to her own advice.
“As long as I’ve put all my effort into the things I’m involved in and I’ve done the best that I can, then hopefully that’s also lifted up the people working around me,” Hoang says. “There’s more to life than just working.”
