The Butchery
Smoked Roast Beef
Is it any surprise that a butcher shop known for top quality beef would also be home to one of the finest smoked beef sandwiches? I think not. It’s tough to find fault when that quality Butchery beef is packed between a homemade bun and topped with Lakeside Farmstead cheddar sauce, horseradish mayo, barbecue sauce and a mountain of crispy onions. Sure, it’s a beef and cheddar, but you won’t be thinking Arby’s. — Phil Wilson

Rosewood Foods
Bar Burger
At most restaurants, I rarely get the burger because, even when made well, they’re often made with too much. And a choice cut of beef can still be wasted if you have to unlock your jaw to boa-constrict the first bite.
Beef, cheddar, onion, mustard and ketchup — sounds like every backyard burger you’ve ever had, right? And that’s the beauty of Rosewood’s Bar Burger: Unlike other high-end burgers, it’s unassuming and hand-holdable, not stacked with appetizers precariously connected by toothpicks like some edible K’Nex contraption. It’s a simple burger on a milk bun with slightly crispy edges that will satisfy — and make you look past other restaurants’ ballooned burgers that are all sizzle. — Cory Schachtel

Everyday Food Company
Spicy Beef
Beef sandwiches abound in Alberta, but few can challenge the Spicy Beef Sandwich from The Everyday Food Company, a take-out counter in Sherwood Park. This sandwich is chock-full of everything a great beef sandwich should have: tender roast beef, gooey cheese, soft onions, just a touch of heat, and enough sauce to require a full bib. It comes on a Vienna roll, but you can’t go wrong with any of its house-made breads. — Phil Wilson
