Fu’s Repair Shop
There’s a reason Fu’s Repair Shop has graced the coveted cover of Edify, beyond the fact that we simply can’t stop slurping down its noodles. Fu’s has everything you want from a good cover shot: flashy design, eye-catching lighting and a contagiously cool ambience.
With its kitschy decor and eclectic sense of style (walking through that secret doorway never gets old), the noodle house and dim sum eatery is among the vibiest places Edmonton has to offer. Replete with daring, effortlessly executed stylistic choices, from the foyer (that seems like a scene straight out of Stranger Things) to its red-light- district-hued dining room to the salon in the basement, Fu’s is an exercise in cool transference. Whether it’s your first visit or 15th, just being there makes you feel like part
of the in-crowd. — Jesse Cole

Dorinku Tokyo
Walking into Dorinku Tokyo is a little like teleportation. Instead of finding yourself in one of countless brew houses or gastropubs, you’re transported straight to the back-alley Tachinomi and Izakaya dive bars of Japan. The moment I walk through the doors, the vibe hangs thick in the air. Gritty ’90s hip-hop pairs as well with the raw, unfinished concrete decor and traditional clapboard booths (often adorned with street signs and Manga wallpaper) as the pork belly bibimbap does with a cold pint of Sapporo. This is a place that knows it’s cool. — Jesse Cole

Otto Food & Drink
Otto doesn’t hit you with a lot of bells and whistles. There isn’t loud music, there aren’t 50,000 sporting and rock ‘n’ roll artifacts hanging on the walls. But what can’t be shaken when you walk into Otto is the sense of community inside. When the weather’s right, the shutter doors open onto the street. You see families gathering for a meal of shareable items, from sausages to schnitzels to garlic fries and red cabbage. Extra sides of sauerkraut, please. You see friends sharing laughs over beer. The Otto hashtag is #EatWithPeopleYouLove. Hear, hear, right? — Steven Sandor
